Building work inspected at Gangaikondan IT Special Economic Zone

TIRUNELVELI (Saturday, Feb 05, 2011): Syntel, a global provider of Information Technology (IT) and Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO) solutions with global development centers in India and the United States, is likely to create its 2.50 lakh square feet facility in the much-awaited Gangaikondan Information Technology Special Economic Zone near here, which may be inaugurated before February-end.

If the Syntel's Board of Directors meeting to be held in the United States in near future approves the proposal of establishing its facility at Gangaikondan IT SEZ, it is expected to provide employment to nearly 4,000 personnel directly and another 10,000 persons indirectly.

“Since this region, comprising Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Kanyakumari districts, is known for its highly knowledgeable, hardworking and loyal technical workforce in the field of IT, our Board of Directors meet will discuss the possibilities of having our facility on the Gangaikondan IT SEZ in addition to the existing unit at Chennai,” said Bharat Desai, an Indian American entrepreneur and founder of Syntel, headquartered in Tory, Michigan, with the market capitalization of $ 943 million.

Mr. Desai was here on Friday to inspect the main building nearing completion at Gangaikondan IT SEZ along with Minister for Information Technology Poongothai Aladi Aruna, ELCOT Managing Director Santhosh Babu and District Collector M. Jayaraman. Syntel is likely to take on lease 25 acres of land within the Gangaikondan IT SEZ to construct its own facility.

Dr. Poongothai said the ongoing final touches to the main building of the SEZ would be completed within a week so that the facility would be ready for inauguration any time before February-end.
